MODULAR ORIGAMI PIECE
A PINWHEEL CUBE
Origami has been so much fun for me! Origami may seem to be easy, its just folding, right ? No. Origami has hidden geometric constructions within it. It takes exact precision. We used our previous knowledge of constructing and last semester and related it to this current project. The thing that has excited me, was the outcome. The process gets really hard sometimes when you have to start over because you messed up, and in some cases that happens more than once. Another thing, was related everything we learned in math, and applying it to other world things, like hardware cunstruction and the folding of proteans. If i could learn more about anything, it would be the basics of origami, in the begining and the fundementals. Origami relates to the construction we have been learning, because when we fold, we must fold precisely and when we do a half fold we are constructing a perpendicular bisect and when we do dicagnol folds we are doing ange bisectors, etc. Three things origami is affecting, the medical world, construction, and air bags. The moment in this project that made me struggle, was finding a perfect video. I had to do selective choosing. I finally found the perfect video with exact demonstration and wording and clear techniques. Overall this project has been lots of fun.
What I thought was most exciting for me in this project, was seeing the math in my blue print. It took me a while to try and think of something to create. I didn't know how to bring the two together and make it creative. One i created my 8 sided shape, I learned i can use all those dots to create many other art pieces while still incorporating math. Math relates to art in many ways. In art, artist use many shapes, use symmetry, reflection, and much more. In my final group piece, we focused on triangles and how you can create and ample amount of triangles into 1 triangle. I would like to learn more about is minimalism. I feel i didn't grasp that concept as well as others. I would want to create more of minimalism art since it interested me. Through out the year we learned a lot. Doing this project at the end of the year helped because we could reflect on everything we did to create something very good. The concept that related to my blue print a lot, were lines. Lines may seem like an easy subject, but we got into a lot of depth at the beginning of the year. So, when I created my piece, i could explain it well from my prior knowledge. I was frustrated, with starting, I had a hard time, but that's just me. I always have a hard time starting. I overcame this by looking at others and what they came up with. Another moment that was frustrating was when tour commites kind of took a toll. Someone didn't show up and it went down hill, but we over came it as a class. Overall this project was very cool and the best part was that we had the opportunity to exhibit at a musuem.
